This fabulous example of a Cassiterite twinned crystal is from the interesting locality of Huber stock in Kr'sno in the Czech Republic, a large greisen deposit which has been mined sine the 1300's for tin and later tungsten. The large and deep open pit is now abandoned and closed to collectors mainly due to the risk of slope instability and frequent landslips in the quarry. This ex. matrix miniature is a gorgeous specimen and with each of the two Cassiterite crystals measuring to almost 4 cm on their longest edge. The twinning is beautifully displayed with deep and broad re-entrant faces forming a V profile. The Cassiterite is jet-black with a bright metallic lustre.
