Malachite ps. after Azurite with Azurite with Duftite
Within the world-famous Tsumeb mine in Namibia, Malachite pseudomorphing after Azurite was ubiquitous throughout all levels of this deep mine, so specimens are common in all Tsumeb collections. What makes this a stand-out specimen is the fibrous crystallisation of the Malachite replacing the Azurite crystals, resulting in a wonderfully aesthetic specimen covered in silky sheets of delicate Malachite acicular crystals, these mimicking the former blocky Azure crystals. As is often the case with fibrous Malachite, its colour, and play of colour due to incident light, ranges from brilliant light emerald-green to intensely dark bottle green. The pseudomorphs measure up to 2.3 cm long and tend to form as squat, thick-set, almost rhombohedral crystals. Distributed amongst these are small, 1 mm and less, glassy Azurite crystals and earthy green druses of light apple-green Duftite, a copper-lead arsenate. This is a most attractive pseudomorph from Tsumeb and one I feel will surely please.
