Mimetite Var. CAMPYLITE$750.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
A super, dense miniature, of intergrown burnt-pumpkin orange Campylite crystals displaying a bright glassy lustre richly cover a black manganese oxide matrix. This Campylite, a barrel-shaped variety of Mimetite, is from the world famous Dry Gill mine in the Caldbeck Fells of the English Lake District in Cumbria. The black manganese oxides at Dry Gill include both Coronadite and Romanecheite, but in this instance the intimate association with Mimetite (a lead mineral) leans me towards Coronadite. Mineral collecting at Dry Gill is now strictly prohibited and even before this was enforced, the trek up the steep hillside to reach Dry Gill was not for the faint-hearted! Ex George Farr Collection, this piece probably dates to the underground exploration during 1970s.
