This display specimen is a highly important large specimen from the Dixie Mine in Colorado, the site of one of Colorado's late 1800s and early 1900s gold rush mines. We almost never see anything surviving from here bigger than 2 inches, and this is nearly 4 inches tall. It is from a small private gold collection that was purchased in the 1980s (or before) by legendary gem dealer Ron Romanella. Ron hired both Dave Wilber and Herb Obodda to work for him back in the Golden Era of minerals, and they later became two of the most important dealers in quality minerals. At the time, Ron himself bought minerals for his own collection and for fun, although he was known primarily in later years as a gemstone dealer. This is from his private collection and has never been shown for sale until now. It is a significant Colorado specimen of a kind we normally only see in museums. The Dixie Mine is a silver, gold, lead, and zinc mine located in Clear Creek County, Colorado at an elevation of 9,698 feet (see more info at : https://westernmininghistory.com)
