A fine, old-time, small cabinet pseudomorph from the famous Ilfeld area. Lustrous and grey-black, the Hausmannite has pseudomorphed a dense, jackstraw cluster of sharp Manganite crystals. Uncommon and excellent classic material from this locality. These old pieces came out in about 1865-1890 (per the excellent 2010 Ilfeld article in The Mineralogical Record). Replacements such as this are very rare.
