Cuprite

This impressive cuprite crystal cluster is a full large thumbnail size and it is blood-red when backlit even moderately, cherry-red with strong backlighting. It is beautiful on its own merits but more importantly for us as collectors, it comes from the Old Dominion Mine in Globe, one of the most collectible of Arizona localities. The strange shape atop appears to be the result of some twinning, for added interest. No damage. It is a unique specimen, quite different than other cuprites of superficially similar style. This was from the collection of Ernie Schlichter, who purchased it from Phil Scalisi in 1982. It then passed to his friend and thumbnail collecting disciple, Shields Flynn, until now.
