This is a hugely important copper specimen from a huge mining site in Mexico, that is actually not well known to collectors. The Aranzazu mine is an underground copper mine, producing gold and silver as by-products, with reserves in the millions of tonnes. It incorporates the former El Cobre mine and other old properties into one modern operation under Aura Mining (lots of interesting info can be found here: https://www.nsenergybusiness.com/projects/aranzazu-mine-zacatecas/) and is one of the largest mines in Zacatecas, but we have seen so very few specimens survive the modern mining processes. This large cabinet display specimen has robust crystals to 1 cm perched on massive copper growths, and is complete all around, 360 degrees. It is quite hefty! This is one of two significant coppers we are proud to present from the Mexican collection of Mexico City-based dealer Ruben Avila. Both are equally rare, given how few native coppers form and survive from Mexico. This is a particularly large example that would stand out in a case.
