Feinglosite with Copper and Mimetite

Considered BEST OF SPECIES by the noted mineralogist and Tsumeb expert Dr. Georg Gebhard (author of the two important German-language books on the subject), this is a rich specimen of super-rare Feinglosite from the type locality. It is rich with eye visible yellow-orange crystals seen under a loupe. Named after our friend, amazing patron and educator within the community of rare species collectors whom we lost in 2020, Mark N. Feinglos (b. 1948 d. 14 March 2020), Professor at Duke University Medical Center. He discovered this mineral species in a specimen at the British Museum of Natural History thinking it was something suspicious. He then found that he had the same material already at home, present in an "unknown" piece from John Innes that he obtained long before in 1980; and the specimen was later confirmed at the BMNH, and also by his friend Bill Pinch. This significant miniature is rife with small orange microcrystals of Feinglosite. Mixed in is spinel-twinned Copper to 1.9 cm, Mimetite, and possibly Scotlandite (not analysed but noted on a label in Dr. Pohl's hand) amidst numerous, clear, rectangular prisms of calcite. Formerly in the renowned collections of Charlie Key and Georg Gebhard, this important specimen was finally acquired by Dr. Pohl from Gebhard and comes with his label as well. Gebhard further notes that it is "3rd oxidation level" and "best of species!" on the back. A small portion of Charlie Keys business card accompanies, with the notes shown in the last photo (and indicating this is one of Charlie's old unknowns, probably from the same find as the Innes piece). Please note that we have not analysed this, ourselves. Mark, when he was alive, valued any speck of feinglosite at $1000 or more... and this has a number of rich areas. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 54104
