This is a simply gorgeous Manganoan Adamite miniature from the astounding world's best 1980 pocket at the Mina Ojuela in Mexico, with the vivid intense purple color that only came in a small percentage of the specimens found: Pieces from this discovery are on many collectors' Holy Grail list, however, good specimens are exceedingly rare. This superb miniature features robust clusters of bicolored, lustrous, and translucent crystals to 3.2 cm in length. The classic chisel terminations and a portions of the prism faces are the deep purple that is so immediately recognizable and the body of some of the crystals are an off-white for great contrast within the Adamite crystals. This specimen displays well from any angle and exhibits optimum aesthetics. This is an important and very display-worthy miniature from this famous find. As a note of interest, some people initially thought these were colored due to cobalt, and the varietal name still persists today, in error, on some old labels, but these are in fact manganoan. This is actually a very important miniature for what it is, not merely representative. One of the iconic finds of Mexico, and of rare colorful minerals in general. From an old collection.
