The ArkenstoneFeatured
This is an unusual piece from the Wessels Mine in the Kalahari Manganese Field with a good display aesthetic showcasing the richest cluster of fine Afwillite we have seen for sale and therefore quite significant for the collector of Kalahari minerals. The piece features a large cluster of white, bladed prismatic Afwillite crystals to 1 cm in length that are well-placed atop the corner of this angular piece of matrix that also shows numerous, sparkling green, Brucite crystals to 2 mm scattered about the display surface. Afwillite is a rare hydrated calcium silicate rarely forming crystals and clusters of this size and quality. All of the crystals comprising the cluster are translucent while the very distinct, and larger prismatic crystals around the periphery of the cluster are essentially transparent. The addition of the associated Brucite crystals makes for a great and noteworthy combination piece from the Kalahari. Ex. John Dagenais collection. Not contemporary, this probably came out in the 1970s-1980s.
