A superb, old-time, cabinet Galena specimen from the Ballard Mine of the Kansas portion of the Tri-State District, from heyday here of the 1930s to 1960s. Splendent, metallic gray Galena cubes to 3.5 cm are aesthetically clustered in an elongate arrangement that resembles modern art. The bottom of this great piece reveals tiny (1 mm) colorless Calcite crystals in drusy patches on select Galena cube faces along with 1 to 2 mm orange-red Sphalerite crystals. Classic and outstanding material from this historic district. Note this is actually one of the oldest pieces in Rock Currier's collection, documented with his original index catalog label from 60 years ago. Rock got this specimen when he got Denny Sutherland's collection in 1967. He treasured what few of his oldest pieces remained and preserved labels from his display cases from the 1960s and 1970s, when possible, as you see one here.
