Axinite from the Russian alpine-type deposit in Puiva, in the Ural Mountains, is considered by may to be generally the best of species for most top specimens. For whatever reasons, axinite from this location is simply generally bigger, prettier, more sparkly, and more shapely in size, than from most other localities. Puiva is therefore one of the most famous locations in the world for the species, but a lot of people do not realize that most of these actually came out in the 1980s and perhaps the 1990s and are not contemporary. Specimens of quality are so rare on the market - and always have been. Here is a fine, balanced, complete-all around small cabinet specimen hosting a sharp 5 cm crystal in adularia feldspar. While not totally pristine, it is darned close to being so, and has not had dings restored as they are trivial. Specimens of axinite with such exposed, proudly standing, vertical crystals are rare and are considered to have the best aesthetics. From the noted collection of Paul Stahl, well known for his taste and access to specimens of quality in the miniature and small cabinet size range, and then directly to collector Gabriel Risse, this has had only the two owners in several decades. It is as fine as you could ever want in an example of the species in the size range because of the crystal quality, display, and association on white.
