Smithsonite from Mexico showing this kind of elongated and scalenohedral habit is unique and interesting because it is actually a complete replacement of calcite crystals, so the piece is now a quite heavy smithsonite specimen even though it may look like a calcite at first glance. this one is fairly colorful, most being more dull or earthy. It is from a really nice find collected in May of 2013 and brought out by Dennis Beals at the time. Complete, with sharp crystals to 2 cm, this was part of the Mexican suite of the Stoudt collection.
