A classic example of both etched and complex skeletal features in the same Aquamarine crystal from Brazil that are not uncommon in the Pedra Azul pegmatite district of Brazil. This aqua blue crystal is heavily etched at one end and less so at the other. The top end is terminated but is dominated by a skeletal, light blue rim, whereas the interior, which is a very light blue has been nearly etched away to a depth of 1.7 cm inside the crystal and it can be viewed right down the center and from one side! The exterior is lustrous and transparent from the surface in to about 3 or 4 mm. The etching leaves tiny scintillating surfaces everywhere! This blue beauty has a mass of 25.58 grams. Unusual crystallography, mesmerizing in person!
