Brazilianite (Type Locality, 1940s)
A stunning, nearly complete-all-around crystal from the original Brazilianite find at this type locality circa 1945, that is still characteristic and distinct to this day compared to later finds at other Brazilian pegmatites in the Linopolis-Mendes-Pimentel area. This crystal has an extraordinary amount of gemminess to it with crystal faces that display incredibly bright luster. The strong green-yellow color and its intensity is characteristic and totally unique of this species in the mineral world. The Corrego Frio (cold creek) mine is the number one locality in the world for the species and produced the largest, most equant, gemmiest and most color saturated crystals ever found from anywhere - this crystal is a prime example! This crystal has all of these characteristics and is exceptional for its size class. The crystal faces are particularly sharp and lustrous and there is only contacting on the bottom and back side where it was removed from the pocket and there is some minor internal fracturing. Phenomenal color, luster, and shape make these stand out, and after 80 years they are STILL the best of their kind. These only turn up now as old collections are recycled, and as far as miniatures go this would be considered exceptional for the color, sharpness, and the gem zone atop.
