Very large and fine, highly lustrous and translucent, rich orange-red-colored spessartine crystals, to 1.3 cm across, cover the display side of this specimen. Outstanding quality! This is one of the finest plates yet recovered from a small granitic deposit about 4 kilometers away from the original Tongbei garnet locality. This new locality is producing a sparse number of specimens but they are few and far between, from tiny pockets, and seldom with crystals so large. This is a major specimen for a Chinese spessartine plate, and it has a sparkling luster and a deeper red color that make it look almost more like material from old finds in Washington in the USA. Mined in 2017, and not surpassed since this pocket. I obtained it in China directly from the miner.
