Galena
Very lustrous, battleship-gray crystals of galena, to 2 cm across, are associated with a few rhombic, lustrous and translucent, amber colored siderite crystals to 1cm across. There is even a lustrous, brassy yellow chalcopyrite, measuring 8 mm across, perched on galena poking out. And, there is also a 1 cm tetrahedrite on the same horizon, peeking out from the galena. Minor siderite complements this classic assemblage of metal species - an old European classic, hard to find for sale at any reasonable price, today. Most of these, I am sure, date to the early to mid 1800's, though the history has been lost. Normally these specimens, in ANY condition or size, should sell for a premium. This came to us in a mixed old collection and at a fair price. It is a solid, showy, lustrous display-quality specimen. It has some periphery wear showing where it came off from larger matrix in the pocket, but is otherwise intact on the large and rich display face.
