A small find in 2016 catapulted the Huanggang Mine into the rarified realm of top-quality, butterfly-twinned Calcites, in this case of the Manganoan variety. Exceptionally large at 12.3 cm across, this twin has a lovely satin luster, soft pink color, and is translucent to gemmy. Naturally, the traces of manganese contribute not only to the pink color but also cause the intense orange fluorescence. The tips are partially contacted on the corner tips, otherwise complete. This dramatic butterfly-twin projects a balanced an impressive aesthetic. It is an excellent piece from this well-known find. I am not aware of any other localities producing such large, pink, twinned Calcites in this so-called butterfly habit.
