From the world famous alkaline intrusion at the Khibiny Massif on the Kola Peninsula, a HUGE Eudialyte crystal sits perched on matrix. This monster is 2.5 inches across, in your face and red - exhibiting a rich magenta-red color and good luster! This relatively rare species is very uncommon in such large and well-formed crystals like this. This is one of the biggest and best formed crystals for the size we have seen, especially from Russia. Although they are found in Greenland as large crystals, this one is strikingly more sharp than most of the ones from Greenland. Eudialyte is a complex sodium-calcium-iron-zirconium silicate and it is associated with feldspar and subhedral, orange crystals we did not identify. An excellent cabinet specimen for the species. It has a sawn base to improve its display ability. From the incredible material stashed away by Kurt Hefendehl in the early days of Russian exports, #211 in his Russian suite.
