Wodginite with Cassiterite epitaxial growth$950.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
This is a superb, sharp, and highly lustrous Wodginite specimen, often misidentified as Ixiolite. This find was made in the 1980's and, by way of analysis, it was determined the exterior Wodginite crystal is epitaxial over growing a core of Cassiterite. This particular crystal is excellent and the high luster is so much better in person as it almost looks like polished obsidian. These were from a limited find and are very hard to come by today. I am told that the pocket was only the size of a basketball and the find limited to some several dozen specimens. At 2.7 cm, it is a very nice thumbnail from the find. When these first made an appearance at major mineral shows over 30 years ago and they were popular with collectors because of their odd formation. Richard Gaines, a well-known pegmatite expert and collector from the East Coast at the time, had the pocket in entirety and this was from his dealer stock. This piece comes with his label. Rare to come by on the market these days!
