Blue topaz from Brazil is justifiably famous but the BEST are from this one old discovery, characterized by a natural ice-blue color. Today, they are still easily recognizable and quite easily discerned from the occasional irradiated fake blue topaz that makes it into our marketplace. Note also the small stub of a green tourmaline, embedded in one face. The shapes of these crystals generally also are unique, with a steep tapering to a chisel-shaped termination as you see here. From the famous 1969 pocket (see Bancroft's famous book Gem & Crystal Treasures for a day by day description of the discovery!). The crystal is not quite complete, and has some contact and damage around the sides and back, but it IS large (1 pound in weight!) and priced accordingly. And, it presents very dramatically as shown. A large 410-gram, unusually slender crystal shard, from this famous find!
