A vibrant pink, specimen of Rose Quartz from the famed Brazilian locality which produced dramatic rose quartz on quartz specimens in the 1960s (one is now the famous Van Allen Belt in the Smithsonian). The Rose Quartz crystals form an elliptical strong pastel pink halo around the periphery of the piece and occur as a "cockscomb" at the interior adjacent to the oblong, massive, translucent Quartz in the center of the piece that was formed earlier, which is definitely evident on the bottom of the specimen. At the periphery of the piece, the Rose Quartz occurs as lovely, rounded mounds composed of 1 to 2 mm, scintillating crystals that reflect any incident light. One side shows a banded texture of the Rose Quartz over earlier formed milky Quartz as can be seen on the backside. At one end of the piece just of the back is a 3 cm cluster of sparkling, translucent, brown-orange Eosphorite crystals for added interest. Eosphorite is a hydrated manganese-aluminum phosphate and is a relatively common association with Rose Quartz at this locality for some reason. An engaging and fascinating piece with distinct form, and an unusual style with this all-around perimeter surrounding a white quartz core, making it unique in its aesthetics. From the personal collection of Alvaro Lucio, who collected into his 90s and is one of the most legendary of Brazilian collectors.
