An unusual ruby crystal, that looks like it is Vietnamese but which we obtained from a Tanzanian source. This is from the Morogoro deposits of gem species in Tanzania. 22.6 grams. Although oddly shaped, it is complete all around. Those are all crystal faces, which perhaps formed in constrained growth as other minerals grew around it. It has the shape of a Vietnam ruby, but the natural waxy luster of a Burma ruby, and yet it is from neither famous locality - but combines features of both! It is a beautiful hot red-pink color in person and glows, when backlit. Bonus - it is strongly fluorescent, as well.
