Exquisitely perched high on a matrix of snow white marble is a beautifully crystallized spinel octahedron, measuring 1.8 cm in length. The crystal is highly lustrous, translucent, and has a vibrant, cherry-red color. The famous ruby in the crown jewels of England is actually a huge red, gemmy spinel from this location! Specimens of this size and caliber are not common.
