This is a fine crust of sparkling, dark blue crystals of vauxite. The largest rosette of crystals is 1.0 cm across. Named by Sam Gordon for his patron in the late 1920's, vauxite is a rare, hydrous, iron, aluminum, phosphate. Large plates of this uniform quality and color are rare and this is a particularly beautiful larger plate as well!
