An old-time classic in fine shape, this excellent plate is richly covered with glassy, colorless, modified scalenohedron Calcite crystals to 3.7 cm. They are of the highest quality! Calcites on Hematite-rich matrix from Egremont, England are highly sought-after, and very hard to get. These date to the mid to late 1800's generally. The Calcite crystals project at many different angles, giving a dramatic and 3-dimensional effect - this is not just the usual flat plate. Amazingly, this is essentially a pristine specimen. All of the major crystals are undamaged. Easily over 100 years old, since the back of the original label by Carl Bosch (http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=205) indicates a purchase date of Dec 7th, 1900. Superb piece with a superb pedigree: Ex. Bosch collection (sold to the Smithsonian after his death), and Obodda collection.
