A significant large calcite from the fluorite district: This huge, doubly-terminated, lustrous and translucent, rich amber colored calcite crystal measures in at a whopping 17 cm in length. Each termination is completely different from the other, which is highly unusual - most such cases show symmetry. The top termination as shown in the main photo I personally find the most attractive because of its stark simplicity with the simple rhombohedral termination atop the scalenohedral form. Others in the office like the complex termination, pointing up. You can choose, and we will make the base either way. It is perched on a sliver of matrix that includes as a nice accent a few galena crystals, to 1.5 cm across. There are also a few drusy, ruby jack sphalerite crystals and one small fluorite crystal under one corner of the calcite crystal. Cute associations! This piece was mined in May 1993. RCL 57
