Unlike most of the sherry-colored topaz specimens from Mogok, which are single crystals, this one is associated with matrix and is, surprisingly, doubly terminated. The top termination is crystallographically complex and the crystal is totally transparent, musch more gemmy in person because of the way the camera has trouble focusing through the gemminess and enhances slight veils as a result. The specimen is nearly pristine. It is equant, and symmetric around its girth. A large and fine topaz, indeed. From the William Larson Burma collection, assembled mostly in the 1990s and brought out prior to the current total import embargo on Burmese minerals and gemstones. "Burma Bill," as he is known there, was pivotal in bringing out fine specimens in conjunction with his gemstone business, and has built the largest privately held collection of fine Burmese minerals, one could say with some degree of certainty. Weighs 378 grams.
