A rare specimen of Italian botryoidal calcite, actually quite aesthetic in addition to being uncommon. Dozens of translucent greenish-yellow balls are set in a very showy vug against dark volcanic basalt. The 1.5 cm, amber ball highlights this fine piece from the Wesley Stark Collection. The specimen is from Montalto di Castro, about 90 km northwest of Rome. Many came out in the late 1980s but they have been scarce, since.
