Vermiculite
A fairly attractive and unusually thick micaceous plate of dark greenish vermiculite, nicknamed Jefferisite at the time because the best were noted to have been collected by famed East Coast collector William Jefferis (whose collection later ended up at the Carnegie). It is not unreasonable to suppose that he might have donated these to the Haverford collection at the urging of his many Quaker friends in the local mineral communities. Old museum number painted on one side. Painted catalogue number on the backside indicates it resided in the Haverford College collection, which was dispersed in the 1880's. 13 x 10 x 1 cm
