When I first saw this piece, in rural China near the city of Wuhan, I immediately thought of a ballerina spinning. The specimen is remarkable for its condition, aesthetics, and positioning on a well trimmed matrix - frankly, it is a miracle they got this thing out in one piece! It is simply one of the most elegant Calcite crystal growths I have ever seen, for style. These are not stalactites, either, despite first glance. These are crystals with actual faces and terminations, not "cave growths" as you might think of them from the first look. The elongated, snake-like crystals are terminated, and quite transparent to translucent. I was able to buy three pieces of this magnitude only, from among a multitude of smaller pieces or damaged examples. One is sold, one I must keep for my own China collection, and that leaves only this of the big three I got, for sale. Obviously, it must be delivered by hand or courier, as it cannot be mailed. Photo by Joe Budd. Comes with a custom lucite base.
