In person, this has a more golden color and luster! It is a superb old German topaz thumbnail, aside from the pedigree. The internal black spots are interesting - some other mineral, I know not what. This piece comes from the collection of Sir Robert Ferguson, Esquire from Kirkaldy County in Scotland, in whose honor the species fergusonite is named. This collection has been in storage since even before Ferguson's death over 150 years ago, forgotten about for all intents and purposes, in the Ferguson family's ancestral estate in Scotland (although part of the collection was removed and exhibited for a short time at the Royal Museum in Edinburgh around the turn of the century). The collection was in 1997 "rediscovered" and sold to the London dealership of Gregory Bottley & Lloyd by Robert Ferguson's descendants
