Irai, Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil is well-known for its engaging Calcite specimens. This cabinet specimen consists of a plate of translucent Chalcedony decorated with a fine layer of sea-green Celadonite, a dozen spires of Calcite, and finally a second generation of gemmy, 2-3 mm Calcites. There are a few clusters of bright, mm-size Pyrites on the bottom side. The tall (up to 5 cm) Calcites have lustrous, stepped faces, and trigonal 'Mercedes' terminations. The majority of Calcites, which are within the boundaries of the matrix, are pristine, while those that extended out were naturally cleaved. The fluorescence of the Calcites is an excellent, rich pink. A distinctive, aesthetic specimen that well-represents the locality.
