This is a very old specimen of gem diopside from Itrongay, Madagascar, which was a source of a great deal of gem material. It is very clear and gemmy, though mineral-coated in back so the clarity is a bit hard to appreciate. The color is typical bottle-green. Ex. National Museum of Natural History Collection. Weighs 30 grams.
