Emplaced nicely on a matrix of massive galena and rhodonite are many flat-lying, glassy and translucent, cherry red rhodonite crystals, to 3.1 cm in length. Edge wear on some of the crystals is evident, however the dazzling color and luster of these crystals far outweigh their minor faults. This is from the single large famous finds (1960s?) that produced a world record amount of the species. Most crystals, such as these, were embedded in galena and picked out carefully to expose the rhodonite inside. This is a hefty, showy example of that famous classic find - now, almost vanished from the market.
