A very 3-dimensional, pristine, colorful specimen! Growing completely as a thick crust around a stalactitic matrix is this stunning, botryoidal, lustrous, deep lilac colored, smithsonite. The smithsonite is so thick, it is translucent when backlit and has the finest color for this material you could ask for. When I was a kid, I remember seeing pieces from this find, circa 1960s, in a museum, and thinking i'd never seen a more pink smithsonite before. They have found more material at this site from recent remining efforts, but few approach the luscious, waxy color of this old material. The botryoidal growths average about 2.0 cm across. The color and luster are, again, just outstanding and not easily conveyed in the photos.
