Stibnites from Manhattan, Nevada are considered to be among the finest, if not the finest, Stibnites produced in the US. Most of these specimens were mined from the mid-1800's until the mid-1900's. Few surviving specimens have matrix to them. Many of the lustrous and iridescent blades on this excellent small cab are striated, with the larger ones extending over 2 cm from the Stibnite matrix. However, what really separates this piece from many of the other fine Stibnites from here is the profusion of fine, gemmy Calcites. Literally, there must be hundreds of these silky, half-centimeter Calcites that decorate the Stibnites just like rock candy on a string. On top of that, the Calcites fluoresce. This excellent and showy specimen from the famous Manhattan District of Nevada is one of the best combination pieces I have seen from there. Great aesthetics, and much better in person. Kay purchased this from the Dave Wilber collection in the early 1950s (her number 1920!).
