A classic Colombian emerald crystal, but unusual in that it is nestled softly in "mountains" of sharp white calcite crystals, providing a beautiful contrast! The 1.6 cm Emerald on this piece is of top color, glassy luster and good translucency (translucent but not transparent). This gorgeous Emerald crystal is nestled in with a trio of large, translucent, white to off-white, modified Calcite rhombohedra to 2 cm, along with a few smaller Calcite crystals. The Emerald crystal exhibits an intense green color and is quite gemmy with only moderate internal fracturing and a part of the top termination is evident. The larger Calcites exhibit an almost opalescent glow to them at the interior and compliment the emerald well. The piece sits nicely on its own for display and is contacted on the bottom. This miniature has excellent form, composition and contrast with the modified, well-formed Calcites providing the perfect association. Illustrated in Mineral Collections of Brazil, 2020, page 131.
