Beryl (Var: Aquamarine)
An important historical specimen from the classic old pegmatites of the Urals which produced the best beryls known to science for hundreds of years up until the discoveries in Brazil in this century. It is almost pristine (just a hardly noticeable shallow conchoidal fracture at one top edge) and is super-gemmy. In person it has a pronounced gradient of blue bands of slightly different hues, running vertically (characteristic of the localities there). Originally sold to me as from San Diego but we have shown by comparison it is not so, and is rather an ideal match in color and banding for the stereotypical russian aquas. 3.8 x 2 x 0.9 cm
