Smithsonite with Hemimorphite

An impressive Smithsonite from the San Antonio Mine in Mexico with textbook botryoidal form for the species and displaying gorgeous sea foam green color. Individual, glistening botryoids measure up to an inch across and and show a splendid satin luster, all of them are translucent and display vivid color. The piece is accented with a small spray of lustrous Hemimorphite crystals on the left side. The underside reveals that the Smithsonite was growing on a ridge of granular, brick-red hematite-goethite. This is from the great finds at this locality in the late 1990s (I recall it well because I wanted some desperately and could not afford them. They were priced like gold, when they came to the market and evaporated at the first appearance!) Today, they are almost impossible to obtain. I have had only a handful in the last 20 years, for resale. In person, the color is unique and beautiful, and they are certainly best of species pocket, for Mexico.
