Judging by the old dealer label with it, this is probably one of the earlier finds brought to market from this now-classic locality. It features a pristine 7.7 cm, doubly-terminated amethyst perched delicately on a thin shard of matrix overgrown with small quartz crystals! The piece is actually a floater, believe it or not, now that I look closely. The two smaller crystals in the main cluster have old breaks/reheals at the tips, but are terminated. The aesthetics here are amazing, and it is an unlikely survivor when you consider the long trip this has taken to get here today from these remote mountains of Mexico.

Amethyst from Veracruz, Mexico
Veracruz amethyst is one of the few amethysts that serious collectors can often recognize at arm’s length. Its appeal is not based on the massive, dark geode architecture of Brazil or Uruguay, nor on the saturated, stout crystal groups of Guerrero. The classic Veracruz look is airy: slender, glassy quartz prisms, lilac to violet, often with the strongest purple gathered in the terminations, rising singly or in bouquets from a gray volcanic matrix dusted with smaller quartz and, in the best combinations, green epidote.
