These "kindey ore" hematites are old-time English classics! And, this one, as you can see, is really special for its unique aesthetics - a single, curving form that looks like some large prehistoric, trilobite-like fossil, sitting on a matrix of massive specular hematite. These can often be big and clunky, so this specimen, with its single mound and careful trimming, makes it right-sized and aesthetic enough for collections that might otherwise not include one. Most good ones are large - this is one of the few smaller ones with a complete mound, good aesthetics, etc. These generally date to the late 1800s and early 1900s.
