This would be pretty impressive just as a natural copper nugget - it weighs in at just under eight pounds. But, it is not just a nugget; running all the way across one side, for about 5 inches, is a channel full of large crystals (to 1.5 cm), sharp and wonderfully formed. This is essentially the wall of a narrow pocket, where the copper had room to form these excellent crystals. This is old Michigan material that escaped the smelter when the miner recognized the value of a well-crystallized specimen. Ex. George Elling Collection.
