A stout, showy and complex Orange River, South Africa quartz crystal! A nearly perfect bright, translucent orange quartz crystal is actually a partial parallel overgrowth on an earlier generation milky quartz crystal. Finely included hematite is responsible for the fiery orange color. The main termination of the orange quartz crystal is what we would consider normal; however, the lower termination is a composite of numerous, small, crystals that splay slightly resulting in multiple terminations over a portion of the earlier formed milky quartz crystal. The early generation of quartz has a clear to slightly milky core with a thin, milky white rim followed by a preferential rough surface on a few of the exposed faces. This is probably one of the most unique Orange River quartz specimens we have seen! Like no other quartz from anywhere and more radiant and translucent in person! The piece comes with a custom engraved acrylic base.
