This incredibly rich combination specimen features every species form the mine, all on one specimen! Sharp rhombohedral, lustrous and translucent, cherry red rhodochrosite, to 1.5 cm across, is the highlight. The rhodos exhibit a 1 mm thick pink rind which gives them an elegant and VERY unusual habit. Even for this mine, briefly productive in 2008-2011 with specimen mining, this is a highly unusual specimen. A contrast is provided by the eggshell-colored calcite, and sulfide associations of pyrite and tetrahedrite (we assume). A remarkable specimen from the glory days of China. Nothing like this has been found in nearly 10 year. Bill purchased this directly from the miners in 2011. Ex. Dr. W.S. Logan Collection. Featured in his self-published book RHODOCHROSITE: Crystals of Drama and Nuance, page 150
