This is a beautiful growth of stalactitic Aragonite, with stunning sky-blue color resulting from a trace amount of copper within. The piece is incredibly sculptural with what looks like a main, stout growth in the center upon which the other small, artistic appendages developed on during growth. This is certainly a cave formation, most likely a stalactite, that was constructed over time by fluid deposition resulting in all the smaller, lovely branching structures. The growth started out almost botryoidal, and then shifted to more filamentous forms as the stalactite grew. The contrast of the blue copper-tinted Aragonite with its delicate growths along with the beige host rock makes for an exquisite piece. Although these deposits are large and vast, and many people are looking for specimens, good examples of this blue varietal remain quite rare, especially in such form and aesthetics.
