Macle twins in diamonds are not so uncommon, but we collectors love them more in glassy and gemmy, cherry red spinel crystals, like this one. It is a classic from Mogok, better than those from other localities! In addition, there is an embedded octahedron in one of the larger faces for a bit of "accent." A mesmerizing crystal form and nice gemminess, combined with rich color, make this a very fine thumbnail crystal. It is a floater, complete all around. 12.06 carats mass, but such twinned spinels have much more visual presence due to their greater surface area to mass ratio, than do octahedrons.
