Exhibiting outstanding rare crystallography, this sulfur specimen is beautifully emplaced on a matrix of drusy calcite/aragonite. Some of the crystals are doubly terminated with one reaching to 3.5 cm in length. They are glassy and gemmy with a wonderful lemon yellow color. Even with some minor edge wear, acceptable on such a soft and old specimen, this is still an impressive sulfur specimen. The matrix contrasts nicely between dark and yellow, due to minute petroleum inclusions in the aragonite. This feature also helpfully confirms that the specimen is natural, and not one of the "famous fakes" made in Italy by a collector in the 1970s. An old classic, ex Giancarlo Fioravanti collection
