This is a superb and beautiful thumbnail topaz specimen. On a rhyolite matrix are two glassy and gemmy, limpid, "imperial" orange colored topaz crystals, to 2.2 cm in length. The habits of the two crystals are different, with one termination being bi-pyramidal, and the other terminated by a pinacoid. There are also a few smaller topaz crystals that are just as gemmy as the larger ones. While we have seen literally hundreds, if not thousands of these old USA classics over the decades, this specimen stands out as a supremely fine thumbnail, with sharper aesthetics and brighter sparkle than most others. It has a label which says it was traded out of a museum in Utah, but that cannot be validated. In any case, it is an absolutely stunning specimen, and a competition-worthy thumbnail.
