From the type locality for dioptase, we have a BIG (2.2-cm) crystal of deep green dioptase, sharp and with fine luster. The crystal is almost an inch! If it were from Tsumeb, it would cost $10k and not look a heckuva lot different. There is only slightely less luster on a Russian diop than on most Tsumeb specimens, really. The crystal has intergrown with some smaller crystals at its base, and has grown around a patch of matrix on the left side, but is complete. It is phenomenally aesthetic and is, I think, a rare quality for a Russian dioptase. Usually when you DO get crystals this large (RARE!), they are part of a solid cluster and not so nicely isolated. 5.6 x 5.4 x 4.3 cm
